A man whose mother was murdered over the weekend today pleaded not guilty to assaulting a Garda.

A man whose mother was murdered over the weekend today pleaded not guilty to assaulting a Garda.

Moses O'Connor (25) from Blackrock, Co Dublin, is facing two charges in connection with the incident on Marine Road in Dun Laoghaire on April 30th 2003.

At the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin, he pleaded not guilty to assaulting Garda Kian Long, causing him harm, and also pleaded not guilty to assaulting a security officer, Bobby Jenkins, on the same day.

Mr O'Connor was dressed in a navy sweater, navy tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

His mother, 48-year-old Regina O'Connor, was found dead in her home in Castlebyrne Park in Newtownpark Avenue on Saturday.

The murdered woman was a keen gardener, sowing both flowers and vegetables in the garden of her Blackrock home.

She was originally from Rwanda where she grew up on a large farm. She later moved to Kenya where she met her future husband, Irishman Andrew O'Connor. She moved to Ireland in 1986 and he died in 1994.

The trial of Mr O'Connor is due to begin at 12.30pm and is expected to last at least three days.
