US: The lavish apartment is, says Kirk Henckels - who finds the super-rich their homes in Manhattan - "definitely the best of the best".
With sweeping views of Central Park, it covers three floors - the 16th to the 18th - each with its own sprawling roof terrace. It has 20 rooms making up some 8,000 square feet of prime real estate, and is about to be sold for an American record of $44 million (€33 million). This, according to the New York Times, is the new abode of the billionaire tycoon, Mr Rupert Murdoch.
His offer for the triplex at 834 Fifth Avenue was accepted this week by its vendor, the estate of the late Laurence Rockefeller, a member of America's titanic political and business dynasty.
The property sits on the most sought-after stretch of Fifth Avenue, just opposite the entrance to Central Park zoo at 64th Street. It was designed by the architect Ms Rosario Candela, and completed in 1931. Mr Murdoch's apartment commands monthly maintenance charges of $21,469 (€16,172).
The apartment was placed on the market, very discreetly, last month by the Brown Harris Stevens agency, and various potential buyers were approached privately. The rules of sale were exacting, requiring the prospective buyer exhibit cash assets well in excess of the asking price, and be able to pay the amount in cash, with no loans affixed.
Mr Murdoch offered the asking price, and his offer was accepted, but he cannot move his things in just yet. A contract has yet to be signed, and he has to be approved by the building's co-operative, which includes former Sotheby's chairman, Alfred Taubman, and Broadway producer Harold Prince.
The expected completion of the deal will beat the Manhattan record of $42.5 million, paid by financier Mr David Martinez for a pad in the Time Warner Building.
At the last count, in March, Mr Murdoch (73) ranked no 43 on Forbes Magazine's list of the world's richest people, worth an estimated $7.8 billion, net.
