FUNDRAISING:THE IRISH Muslim community will conduct a collection at the State's mosques in aid of those affected by the recent floods.

Members of the Muslim community recently formed the Irish Muslim Flood Relief Committee, which held a meeting with the Irish Red Cross (IRC) about taking part in the Red Cross appeal. Counter-top collection boxes and posters have been placed in Muslim-owned businesses, and collections were held on Saturday in Dublin.

Collections at two mosques have taken place over the past two Fridays, and the national mosque collection will take place on Friday. Mosques involved include those in Clonskeagh, Co Dublin; Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo; and Cork and Galway.

The Irish Muslim Flood Relief Committee, which can be contacted on 01-6729038, is to write to embassies of mainly Muslim countries seeking contributions.
