The family of Jean Charles de Menezes tonight called for "those responsible" for the fatal shooting of the 27-year-old to face "real justice" in a court of law.

They spoke out after the British police watchdog delivered its long-awaited report into his death to the Crown Prosecution Service today.

At a press conference this afternoon, representatives of the Brazilian's family said they remained "in the dark" after being refused permission to see the full report.

The delivery of the report marks the culmination of the IPCC's six-month inquiry into the death of Mr de Menezes who was shot dead by anti-terror officers after being mistaken for a suicide bomber.

Through an interpreter, a family spokeswoman said: "Everything we have learned over the last few months has strengthened our conviction that those responsible should be prosecuted.

"Real justice can only be found in a court of law."

She said the family were disappointed that by not being allowed to read the report they "remain in the dark".

She added: "We believed that at least we would be able to read the final report.

"The victims of this tragedy are the last to know."

The IPCC's report was handed in at the CPS's offices in Ludgate Hill, central London, this morning.

It will now be up to the CPS to decide whether to bring criminal charges against any of the police officers involved.
