The prestigious daily newspaper for the international English-speaking shipping community, Lloyds List, had a curious little piece in its diary column a couple of weeks ago. Children, it said, could name the new Royal Navy vessel being built at Appledore Shipyard, Devon. "The vessel will cost more than £20 million to build and be similar to the Roisin, which joined the fleet last year. UK defence minister Michael Smith has waived the traditional right of the minister to choose the name. Secondary school students throughout the country are being asked to suggest a name which must be a female character in Celtic mythology and Irish history."
Something wrong here surely.
