DUBLIN CENTRAL:FINE GAEL's candidate in the Dublin Central byelection narrowly avoided serious injury yesterday afternoon when a car mounted the footpath and ran over his foot as he was leaving Bertie Ahern's local.
While out canvassing, Senator Paschal Donohoe stopped off at Fagan’s pub in Drumcondra. As he left the popular hostelry, opposite the former taoiseach’s St Luke’s headquarters, he was knocked over.
“All my leaflets went flying and I got properly clobbered. Richard Bruton was with me at the time, and he got a terrible shock,” said Mr Donohoe. The Senator said a member of his canvassing team, a doctor, arrived at the scene. He has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. “My foot is very tender, but I hope to get back to canvassing as soon as possible. All I could think about was Bertie Ahern, who’s been hobbling about for the last nine months after he injured his foot. It must be something about this constituency.”
Sen Donohoe was well enough to welcome Enda Kenny onto his patch last night – at the opening of his constituency office in Phibsboro.
