Thousands of people are expected to participate in the annual Whale Watch which takes place from today.
The purpose of Whale Watch is to monitor cetacean - whales, porpoises and dolphin - activity, simultaneously from 10 locations between Antrim and Wexford.
Among the creatures that may be spotted are harbour porpoises, common dolphins, bottle-nosed dolphins and minke whales (more likely on the west coast).
Members of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group will be at hand to provide information to the public at all locations.
One of the aims of Whale Watch is to compile a national database on cetacean activity around Ireland. Watches are between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. (unless otherwise stated).
Today: Co Antrim - Whitehead (11 a.m.), Quarry car-park.
Tomorrow: Co Antrim - Portrush ( 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Portrush Countryside Centre; Co Antrim - Carrick-a-Rede, Larrybane, Ballintoy; Co Antrim - Whitehead, sea front car-park; Co Cork - Old Head of Kinsale, golf course gates; Co Clare - Loop Head, lighthouse car-park; Co Dublin - Howth Head, Balscadden car-park; Co Kerry - Dunmore Head, Coumeenoole car-park; Co Mayo - Downpatrick Head, car-park; Co Wexford - Hook Head, Hook Lighthouse.
