Nepali soldiers killed six Maoist rebels in separate clashes in their drive to flush out guerrillas trying to overthrow the constitutional monarchy in the Himalayan kingdom, the Defence Ministry said today.
It said four guerrillas were killed in a gunbattle in Gorkha and one died in a separate encounter in Rolpa, both in west Nepal. Another insurgent was killed in Saptari in east Nepal.
Nepal ordered its troops to crush the rebels after they walked out of a peace process and broke a truce last month.
King Gyanendra imposed emergency rule in Nepal, branding the rebels, who want to set up a one-party communist republic in the Himalayan kingdom, terrorists.
