Manila - Philippine law-enforcers yesterday asked the Justice Department to revive criminal charges against the suspected author of the "ILOVEYOU" virus, the most destructive computer virus ever unleashed on the Internet.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said the decision of state prosecutors not to file charges against the suspect, Mr Onel de Guzman, failed to take into consideration the use of the virus to break into computer systems. Last month, state prosecutors threw out a criminal complaint filed by the NBI against the main suspect, Mr de Guzman, a computer school drop-out, saying he could not be charged because the country had no law against computer hacking at the time.
