Father Donal McKeown, president of St Malachy's College in Belfast, has been appointed an auxiliary bishop of the Down and Connor diocese. He will join Dr Anthony Farquhar as a second auxiliary bishop to Bishop Patrick Walsh.
His ordination will take place after Easter, probably on Sunday, April 29th.
Father McKeown was born in 1950 at Randalstown, Co Antrim. After his ordination in 1977 he was chaplain at Belfast's Mater Hospital for a year. He then taught successively at St Patrick's College, Belfast, St Mac Nissi's College, Garron Tower, and St Malachy's College, Belfast, where he has been president since 1995.
