The Minister for Communications and Natural Resources, Mr Dermot Ahern, was absent as he was attending a meeting of the EU Fisheries Council in Brussels where they discussed the Commission's proposals to cut the Union's fishing fleet in an effort to prevent the collapse of fish stocks.

The Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy addressed the Cabinet meeting briefing them on public pay policy in advance of the publication policy ahead of the delivery of a report on benchmarking which is due to be published later this month.
