New car registrations grew slightly in November

The number of new private cars registered in the first 11 months of the year rose by 11.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.

New figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that there were 3,779 new private cars licensed last month, compared with 3,763 in November, 2004, an increase of 0.4 per cent.

First licensing of second-hand private cars increased by 1,355 (55.9 per cent) on the same month last year and increased by 15,844 (82.6 per cent) in the year to date.

The figures for November show that the most popular marques are Toyota (491 new registrations), followed by Volkswagen (393), Opel (378), Ford (328), Nissan (242) and Renault (202).

New goods vehicles licensed increased by 164 (8.4 per cent) in November, 2005 when compared with November, 2004, and increased by 7,172 (23.9 per cent) in the period January to November 2005 by comparison with the same period last year.
