Dublin's growing Polish community is to get its first dedicated television programme courtesy of a new channel due to start broadcasting in the city at the end of this month.
The magazine-style news show, Oto Polska, will be transmitted on The City Channel to NTL digital customers.
The channel said the show would include news about political, cultural, entertainment and sports events from all over Poland.
Polish representatives in Ireland welcomed the announcement which is seen as an indication of the growing multiculturalism of Irish society, particularly since the arrival of thousands of people from the eastern European states that recently joined the EU.
There are thought to be about 50,000 Polish nationals in Ireland, most of whom live in Dublin.
"We really welcome this development as it will help Polish citizens in Dublin keep up to date with happenings back home. It's a great idea," said Malgorzata Kozic, consul at the Polish embassy in Dublin.
The City Channel will broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The company said it would be a "niche service, providing dedicated information and entertainment specifically of interest to the Dublin area and all communities within".
The channel's founder and chief executive, David Harvey, said it was the first television channel in Ireland to cater for ethnic minorities living in the capital.
"A similar offering will come on air in the future for Filipino, Russian and Chinese communities living in Dublin, which I believe proves our strong commitment to provide a broad service which includes programmes of interest to immigrant audiences," Mr Harvey said.
The service will be carried on the NTL digital platform in Dublin as part of its standard digital subscription package.
The City Channel is due on air by the end of this month.
