ABOUT 70 asylum seekers living at Mosney, Co Meath, have been told their refusal to comply with transfer orders to move to new accommodation in Dublin is “unacceptable” and they must leave by August 31st.

The Reception and Integration Agency (RIA) sent letters yesterday to the 70 or so asylum seekers who are still refusing to move from Mosney to another centre at Hatch Hall in Dublin.

“Despite RIA affording to you a reasonable period of time in which to comply with the request to move to Hatch Hall, you have not done so. RIA has not received any medical representations on your behalf giving reasons as to why this transfer should not go ahead nor have we received any other correspondence . . . You no longer have any legal or administrative right to remain in Mosney and it is unacceptable that this situation should continue,” the letter says.

It adds that the asylum seekers are free to secure their own accommodation if their resources allow but they must leave Mosney because the RIA has stopped paying for their stay. It also suggests their claim for protection could be affected by a refusal to move to a new centre.
