GARDAI in Co Tipperary have a new lead in their search for the killers of Mr Danny Fanning, the cattle dealer and farmer who died after being shot in the leg on Tuesday, writes John Maher, Drugs and Crime Correspondent.

A navy blue BMW car with three men inside was seen in the driveway of a house behind Mr Fanning's home in, Stephenstown the day before the shooting. The men "had no reason to be there", according to the gardai. The car was spotted by two people who have supplied descriptions of its occupants.

Last night, the records of stolen BMWs were being checked in an attempt to trace the car and gardai are also continuing their search for a green Volkswagen Polo car, with 95D in its registration.

Mr Fanning was shot after the gang entered his home on Tuesday evening and tied up his wife, Bridget, and daughter, Rosaleen.
