New member of LRC appointed

The vice president of SIPTU, Mr Jimmy Somers, has been appointed to the Labour Relations Commission

The vice president of SIPTU, Mr Jimmy Somers, has been appointed to the Labour Relations Commission. Mr Somers replaces Mr Phil Flynn, who retired as general secretary of IMPACT last year. Mr Flynn will continue to act as a Rights Commissioner for the LRC.

The Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, has reappointed all of the other outgoing members of the LRC when three year terms had ended, including the chairwoman, Ms Catherine Forde.

They are Mr Kevin Duffy of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Mr Liam Downey and Mr Turlough O'Sullivan of the Irish Business and Employers' Confederation, Dr Mary Redmond and Dr Joyce O'Connor.
