New legislation has been published by the Minister for the Marine, Mr Fahey, to regulate activities at adventure and outdoor pursuits centres.
The Adventure Activities Standards Authority Bill 2000 will establish independent monitoring. It will also provide for mandatory registration of adventure centres and providers, and codes of safe operating practice.
Activities specified in the legislation include caving, dinghy sailing, kayaking, canoeing, surfing with a board, windsurfing, scuba-diving, snorkelling, abseiling, rockclimbing and archery.
