Two religious orders which are trustees of a large second-level school in Co Dublin have said that because of lack of vocations and the advanced age of their members they are to give up involvement in the trusteeship or management of the school at the end of this school year.
From next August, the Holy Faith/De La Salle College in Skerries will become a community college under the joint trusteeship and management of the Archdiocese of Dublin and the Co Dublin VEC, subject to agreement between the parties on the "acquisition of the property", a VEC spokesman said.
The 1,000-student college was formed in 1982 through the amalgamation of Holy Faith Secondary School, De La Salle College and Skerries vocational co-educational school. It is about to embark on a £3 million building programme.
