The 36th year of the Young Scientist Exhibition is set to be a fitting herald for the millennium as its sponsor, Esat Telecom, has announced a series of new attractions for second-level participants, teachers and the public.

The Esat Telecom Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, as it is now known, will take place from January 11th to 15th at the RDS in Dublin. Among the new elements will be a design technology category.

There will also be a "time out zone" for teachers to view the latest computer packages and brush up on internet skills. A "future zone" for third-level institutions, educational bodies and prospective employers will allow them to advise young people on career choices. These will be in addition to other changes successfully introduced since Esat Telecom took over sponsorship of the event.

Speaking at the start of a promotion drive for the 2000 exhibition, Ms Andrina Moore, events and sponsorship manager with Esat Telecom, said the new line-up would have the added benefits of encouraging greater participation and attracting more visitors.
