Newcastle boss Bobby Robson fielded his strongest possible starting 11 as the Magpies embarked upon their UEFA Cup semi-final second leg in Marseille.

Robson selected the same 11 who took to the field at Manchester City on Saturday, but left them in little doubt that their tame second-half surrender there could not be repeated at the Stade Velodrome if they were to keep alive their hopes of ending a 35-year trophy drought.

There were changes on the bench, however, with Lee Bowyer included for a European game for the first time since December 2002, and central defender Steve Caldwell also among the substitutes following his return from a loan spell at Leeds.

Marseille boss Jose Anigo made six changes to the side which lost 1-0 at home in the league to Metz at the weekend, but only one from the first leg as former Fulham striker Steve Marlet replaced Laurent Batlles.
