The controversial Newry bypass on the Belfast Dublin Road, which could reduce the journey between the two cities by 30 minutes, opened yesterday.
Local residents have said that the road is dangerous for children on their way to school, but the NI Department of the Environment said that a footbridge had been built for pedestrians.
Residents who claim that the bridge is not accessible, and that a tunnel should be built for pedestrians, are being supported by Newry and Mourne District Council.
