A Co Down man has been remanded for sentence in January for kidnapping, hijacking a Garda car and having a gun with intent to resist arrest in Co Louth last year.

Gareth McKeown (32), of Mount Pleasant, Newry, pleaded guilty to seven charges arising out of the incident on September 1st, 2000, in the Dunleer and Dromin areas. Judge Elizabeth Dunne, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, remanded him on continuing cash bail of £75,000 to January 21st next.

McKeown admitted attempted robbery of Charles Monaghan in Dunleer; false imprisonment of Seamus O'Neill at Dromin; and unlawfully seizing and taking a Garda vehicle. He also pleaded guilty to the remainder of the seven charges.
