A man who admitted raping and murdering a Belfast mother of one must serve a minimum of 22 years of a life sentence before he can be considered for release, a judge said today.

Kristoff Emmanuel Alauya (25) from Nigeria but with an address at Churchfield, Co Carlow, pleaded guilty to raping Grace Moore (38) in her flat on November 18th, 2006.

He then stole personal belongings from her home, including perfume, jewellery, personal documents, a DVD player, cheque books and an ATM card.

Setting a minimum life term at Belfast Crown Court today, Mr Justice Weir said he found no evidence of remorse or contrition for the killing on the part of Alauya.

Mr Justice Weir also imposed a 10-year term for Ms Moore's rape and two years for theft and ordered that Alauya sign the police sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

At his trial in November, the jury was told that Alauya had arrived in Belfast a couple of days before he met Ms Moore at Skye nightclub. He went back to her flat, where he raped her, stabbed her twice in the neck and strangled her.

Her body was found by her teenaged daughter.

Police arrested Alauya the next day at Skye nightclub. They subsequently uncovered Ms Moore's belongings, along with a T-shirt stained with her blood, in a flat at University Avenue.
