A new independent police complaints system with experienced investigators will be operational by November, according to the Police Ombudsman-designate for Northern Ireland, Ms Nuala O'Loan.
The Police Ombudsman will have a team of independent investigators, drawn from all over the world, in place in a matter of weeks.
Among her team will be a senior police complaints officer from South Africa, a detective chief inspector from Hong Kong, a scene-of-crimes officer and a senior investigator from New South Wales. The unit will also include personnel with experience in fraud investigation.
