A teacher at a Co Down secondary school has been charged with downloading indecent images of children from the internet.

A teacher at a Co Down secondary school has been charged with downloading indecent images of children from the internet.

Sullivan Upper school in Holywood has suspended the male staff member, who has been released on bail, pending the outcome of his court hearing.

The teacher is one of 10 men arrested in the North this week in connection with the possession of indecent images of children.

Six have so far been charged while the four others released on bail.

Principal John Stevenson said he had written to all parents to make them aware of the situation and that the charge didn't relate to activity that took place within the school.

"We have given the staff member a precautionary suspension, which is the normal course of action. This is a suspension without prejudice, we will now let the judicial process take its course," he said.
