The Northern Ireland Voluntary Trust has helped secure more than £60 million in investment in the North's social economy, it was claimed yesterday when the group's 20th annual report was introduced by Ms Monica McWilliams, of the Women's Coalition, writes Suzanne Breen in Belfast.

Ms McWilliams said the NIVT's activities had "contributed significantly to the growth and vibrancy of our community and voluntary sector". Mr David Cook, a former Alliance party lord mayor of Belfast, has stepped down as chairman. The new co-chairs are Ms Mary Black, the health action zone leader with the North and West Health and Social Services Trust, and Mr Sammy Douglas, chairman of the Greater East Belfast Partnership Board.
