Settled well off the frenetic pace set by 6-4 favourite Central House and Jim, he closed patiently on the leaders in the hands of Niall 'Slippers' Madden, fresh from his Christmas Hurdle success on Jazz Messenger.

As the front two came back to the field, Hi Cloy, successful last year when Roger Loughran threw away certain victory on Central House after mistaking the winning post, looked a huge threat.

However, Jim crashed out at the second-last, hampering Hi Cloy and leaving Nickname as the main danger.

The Martin Brassil-trained 5-2 chance took up the running at the final fence and shot clear on the run-in for a very impressive 14-length victory, with Central House sticking on gamely for second.

William Hill were impressed enough to cut his Queen Mother Champion Chase odds to 16-1 from 33-1, while Bet Direct go 14-1.

De Valira (3-1) got the better of Catch Me in a thrilling finish to the paddypower.com Future Novice Hurdle.

Michael O'Brien's charge travelled sweetly throughout for Andrew Lynch and despite stepping at the last flight of hurdles, he still had enough left to out-sprint the even-money favourite and prevail by a neck.

The pair were nine lengths in front of Sizing Europe.

Denis Cullen, assistant trainer to O'Brien, said: "He's a horse we've held in very high regard for a long time and he is starting to fulfil his potential now.

"I'm not sure of the plans at the moment - he will definitely be going to Cheltenham but I'm not sure if he'll run beforehand."
