Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived in Harare this afternoon and immediately went into talks with his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe, a government official said.
"I certainly know he has been meeting the president [Mugabe]," the presidential spokesman said.
The meeting reportedly lasted about 30 minutes, but details of the talks were not made available.
Obasanjo was travelling from South Africa, where he held talks President Thabo Mbeki on Zimbabwe's future in the Commonwealth after its suspension last year.

"The president remains determined to engage the Zimbabwean government. He does not support the concept of isolating Zimbabwe or of imposing sanctions on that government," a spokesperson said.
