TENNIS: Conor Niland heads-up Ireland's four-man Davis Cup team ahead of their opening match against Algeria in the Euro-African Zibe Group II section on the weekend of March 6th-8th.
At 279 in the world Niland is the highest ranked Irish player and is joined on the team by Louk Sorensen (307), James McGee (573) and Colin O’Brien (645).
Ireland’s Davis Cup captain Sean Sorensen and selectors also confirmed the three reserves, Barry King, Tristan Farron Mahon and James McGahon.
King was surely close to making the team as he has shown good form since taking up tennis fulltime in recent months. He also defeated Niland in last year’s Irish Close Championship.
James Cluskey and Eoin Heavey were unavailable for selection due to college commitments in the US.
The opening fixture will take place at the Office du Complexe Olympique Mohamed Boudiaf venue in Algiers on March 6th-8th.
