Tennis:Conor Niland will have to wait until tomorrow morning if he is to book his place at Wimbledon after rain washed out most of today's play during the qualifying tournament at Bank of England Club in Roehampton.
The Limerick man, bidding to become the first Irish name in the Wimbledon men’s singles draw since Matt Doyle in 1984, had been due to meet Croatian Nikola Mektic in the third qualifying round this afternoon.
But heavy rain showers disrupted play throughout the day with the first match on Court C suspended on a number of occasions. That contest, between Russian Nina Bratchikova and Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak, will resume at 10.30am with Niland’s meeting with Mektic next on the order of play.
