Tennis:Conor Niland will lead the Irish Davis Cup team for their Euro/Africa Zone Group II first-round tie away to Hungary next month.
Niland qualified for two Grand Slam events last year, but his season started in disappointing fashion when he was knocked out in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Niland will lead a team that also includes Louk Sorensen, who came out of retirement to make the first round of the US Open last year. James McGee and Sam Barry complete the line-up for the tie on the February 10th to 12th February.
Team captain Garry Cahill is delighted to be able to draw on all of Sorensen’s experience in what he believes is a strong squad.
“I am delighted that Louk will be part of the team once again, his record in Davis Cup speaks for itself and he has showed during past ties what it means to him to represent his country,” said Cahill.
“We have a strong team heading out to Hungary and we’re really looking forward to the tie. This is a team with the experience, ability and passion to win this tie. Hard work and a good team spirit will also be key to a successful start to our 2012 Davis Cup campaign.”
