Nine beaches in Northern Ireland have made it into a new book on the very best beaches.

Nine beaches in Northern Ireland have made it into a new book on the very best beaches.

The beaches are included in Britain's Blue Flag Beaches- produced by VisitBritain, ENCAMS and Tidy Northern Ireland - organisers of the Blue Flag and Seaside Awards in the north.

The recommended resorts and rural beaches include three in Portrush, Co Antrim - East Strand, West Strand and White Rocks.

Other beaches included are Portstewart Strand and Benone Strand in Derry and Ballycastle beach in Antrim. Beaches in Down included on the list are Tyrella, Cranfield West and Millisle Lagoon.

In the last Blue Flag survey Portrush West Strand was voted Northern Ireland's cleanest beach with a score of 91 out of 100.

The Northern Ireland beaches take their place in the book alongside more than 100 in Britain.
