A man who smuggled €10 million worth of cannabis into Ireland in a lorry containing flowers was sentenced to nine years in prison yesterday.
Ali Orhun (43), of Haarlem, The Netherlands, appeared at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court facing charges of importing the drug for sale or supply through Rosslare Europort on October 1st, 2008.
Garda Kieran Hayes said the lorry had been searched after it disembarked a Stena Line ferry, which had sailed from Fishguard. The Garda Drug Unit had found 1.425 tonnes of cannabis, hidden in a false floor in the trailer of the lorry, which was full with flowers and plants.
