Golf:Golf fans who attended the Ryder Cup on Friday will not be receiving a refund despite seven and a quarter hours of play being lost to rain at Celtic Manor.

Not a match was finished during the four hours of action, but a statement said: "Ryder Cup Europe confirms that, under the terms and conditions of the 2010 Ryder Cup, ticket holders are not entitled to a refund.

"Nevertheless we appreciate the patience and consideration shown by spectators today in the face of appalling weather conditions.

"An announcement will be made on rydercup.com following the conclusion of the 2010 Ryder Cup regarding ticketing opportunities on European Tour competitions in 2011 including the Celtic Manor Wales Open."

The fans, however, were not the only ones out of pocket after the American team were forced to shell out an estimated £4,000 for new waterproofs when it became apparent theirs were not up to the task this morning.

Two years ago Nick Faldo had warned "bring your waterproofs". He might have added: "Make sure they are good ones."

Embarrassingly for the Americans and even more so for the company that supplied them, Corey Pavin's side went shopping for more after complaining about the tops and trousers they had been given.

"We were disappointed with the performance of them," said Pavin.

Montana-based Sun Mountain had boasted: "Weather will most likely be a factor at this year's event. May the team with the best outerwear win.''

That would be Europe, then.
