Non-national roads allocated €438.46m for 2002

Investment in non-national roads will total €438.46 million this year, the Minister for the Environment announced today.

The investment represents an increase of seven per cent on the allocation for last year.

Among the programmes to benefit this year will be Dublin traffic management scheme, the Ballymun main street redevelopment, and the regional traffic management programme.

Mr Dempsey said €221 million will be spent on improvement and maintenance on local and regional roads, with over €50 million funding to facilitate housing development.

According to the Minister, the package will see the investment of €4,380 per km of non-national roads, compared to €4,080 in 2001.
