Police in Northern Ireland believe they have come across a stash of bottles intended for use as petrol bombs.

Following searches in the North Belfast area of Tiger’s Bay, 500 empty beer bottles were discovered. The area encompasses Duncairn Gardens, were some of the worst street fighting in the city has taken place over the past 12 months.

Poilce believe the bottles were to be used as petrol bombs during street violence in the future.

Police are also appealing for information in relation to a knife attack in Bangor Co Down this afternoon.

A 36-year-old man was attacked by a masked man and slached across the face, chest and stomach with a Stanley-type knife.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
