THE Conservative Party in Northern Ireland has made it clear it fully supports the British government's policies on the peace process.

A party candidate in east Belfast, Ms Dorothy Dunlop, said it was increasingly clear the government had not gone weak on decommissioning or the Union.

The British prime minister, Mr Major, had given more attention to attempting to solve the conflict than any of his predecessors, she said.

Ms Dunlop, who was speaking at the launch of her party's manifesto yesterday, praised Mr Major's success in managing to have all parties agree to be at negotiations on June 10th.

The Conservatives are standing 35 candidates in the poll and are contesting 16 of the 18 constituencies. The Ulster Independence Movement also launched its manifesto yesterday.

Party leader, Mr Hugh Ross, advocated negotiated independence.

"We have a very viable and good argument to put forward to unionists and nationalists," he said.

"We would urge to unionists to give their allegiance to Ulster alone."
