National Chamber Choir Education Programme for Leaving Cert composers
Budding Leaving Cert composers may be interested in National Chamber Choir's composition workshops for senior-cycle music students. The two-year programme gives young composers the opportunity to learn from professional musicians and to compose original pieces of music to be performed and recorded by the National Chamber Choir (NCC).
Interested students can attend an introductory presentation at Dublin City University tomorrow from 1.45-2.45pm.
The programme, which is free of charge, is open to all schools offering music as a Leaving Cert subject. Applications are invited from students interested in developing overall musicianship, or those keen to study composition as a higher elective for the Leaving Cert. Participants may submit their final composition for examination purposes.
During the course of the two-year programme students take part in locally-based workshops with composers and singers and recording workshops. Students have the choice of creating an individual or group composition in a style of their choice - rock, pop, classical, jazz or traditional. The programme concludes with a gala concert featuring a selection of the pieces composed and performed by the National Chamber Choir.
There is a limited number of places available for this year's project. Teachers who would like their school to be involved can contact the NCC's education department. Tel: 01-7006104. Website: www.nationalchamberchoir.dcu.ie.
