Cable operator ntl Ireland and ESB Telecom have announced an agreement which paves the way for the introduction of ntl Broadband services to Galway and Waterford.

Under the agreement ESB Telecoms will supply high quality bandwidth services between major nodes on its network to ntl.  This bandwidth will provide additional network resources required to enable roll-out of broadband to other parts of ntl's network areas.

Ntl Ireland commenced an investment programme this year to enable its network to deliver broadband services to consumers and now has over 66,500 homes marketable for broadband, an increase of 38,500 in the third quarter.

Broadband customer numbers grew to some 5,400 at the end of the third quarter reaching a penetration level of 8.1 per cent.

Ntl Ireland, a subsidiary of the British-registered firm, Ntl Incorporated, supplies cable television services in Galway, Waterford and Dublin, and broadband services to households in certain parts of its franchise area.
