At a time when there was talk among our European partners about the use of nuclear weapons in conflict resolution, it would be useful if the Minister for Defence could clarify the State's obligations under the Rapid Reaction Force structures, Mr Pascal Mooney (FF) said. Many people had concerns about Ireland's future role in "not so much a military alliance but in a crisis resolution context. As this country has a very strong view about the use of missiles and nuclear weapons, I would be very concerned that we might be drawn into an area and used in a context that would not be acceptable to the vast majority of the Irish people."
