An ambulance driver, forced to brake violently to avoid a crash, was not responsible for injuries to a nurse tending a patient in the rear of his vehicle, a judge has held.
Judge James Carroll said that an untraced driver who cut out in front of the Waverly ambulance on the main Dublin Galway road was responsible.
He told Mr George Birmingham, counsel for the ambulance company, that his client could not be held to blame and awarded the nurse, Ms Maeve Heaney Flynn, of Westbrook, Barna, Co Galway, £6,000 damages against the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland which compensates victims of untraced motorists.
