After this award, Staff Nurses' pay will have risen by 26 per cent, of which 17 per cent is due to special pay awards and 9 per cent to national pay rounds.

Ward Sisters and higher grades will have received increases of 37.4 per cent, of which 27 per cent is due to special increases. Directors of Nursing will have received increases worth up to 46.6 per cent.

The Directors of Nursing of the largest eight hospitals in the State are also eligible for an additional performance-related pay bonus of £2,500 each year.

Staff Nurse allowances increased from £323 a year to between £1,000 and £1,500. Over half of general nurses will receive this, all Public Health Nurses and 3,000 nurses in the psychiatric and mental health areas.

2,500 places for appointments to a new Senior Staff Nurse grade, with a 5 per cent premium over the maximum of the staff nurse grade.

1,100 extra Junior Ward Sisters to be appointed with a 14.5 per cent premium over the maximum of the staff nurse grade. 1,250 Clinical Nurse Specialists to be appointed with a 19 per cent premium over the maximum of the staff nurse grade.

Annual Leave

Staff Nurses will receive three extra leave days, bringing total leave to 27 days. Ward Sisters and higher grades will receive four days' extra leave, bringing the total to 28 days.
