Members of the Irish Nurses Organisation (INO) in Naas General Hospital's theatres will begin a work-to-rule at on Friday.
The INO say the action is in pursuit of their claim for improved on-call rates and will involve a picket on Friday between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., followed by an ongoing work-to-rule in the form of withdrawal from non-nursing duties, and withdrawal of labour on Tuesday, 4th and Thursday, 6th March from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The claim for the nurses working in the theatre department was first lodged in July 2002.
The INO says their members are angered at the poor response from management to settle this claim and have decided to engage in this action in order to focus them on this issue.
Ms Phil Ni Sheaghdha, INO industrial relations officer said: "The huge out of hours commitment that is required of INO members in this workplace is apparently not appreciated nor understood by the employer."
"The fact that this service is provided at a loss to the nursing staff on many occasions would appear to be irrelevant to the employer and it is with true disappointment that INO members are now forced to take this action." she continued.
