A private nursing home in Co Meath, which was refused registration by the Health Service Executive (HSE) earlier this month, has said it will appeal the decision to the District Court.

The Hillview Nursing Home near Tara was refused registration by the HSE North East Area on June 8th as a result of what it claimed was the owner's failure to appoint an appropriate person to be in charge of the home, something required by legislation.

The home had 21 days to appeal the decision to the District Court. With the 21 days expiring today, solicitors for the home indicated yesterday that an appeal had been lodged.

Brian Hunt, solicitor for the home owner, also said his client had now found an appropriate person to be in charge of the home.

The HSE North Eastern Area appointed a person to take over the management of the nursing home on a temporary basis, after registration was refused.

Staff at the home voted unanimously in favour of industrial action on Monday over what their unions, Siptu and the Irish Nurses Organisation, claimed was management's refusal to discuss the future of the home with them in light of it being refused registration. They plan to take industrial action in 14 days if issues are not resolved.
