Racing: Dylan Thomas landed a workmanlike victory for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown today.
Seamus Heffernan always had the 11-2 shot well placed on the rails as his stablemate Altius set the pace with the favourite Heliostatic also close up.
Dylan Thomas went on as the field turned for home and he galloped on resolutely to hold O'Brien's other runner Mountain by a length and a half. British raider Youmzain, trained by Mick Channon, was just behind in third.
Dylan Thomas was cut to 10-1 from 16-1 for the Vodafone Derby with William Hill while Stan James go 14-1 from 20-1.
O'Brien and Heffernan completed a quick big-race double when Queen Cleopatra took the Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial. Like Dylan Thomas, Queen Cleopatra was always in the front rank as Queen Of Rap took the field along in the Group Three contest over a mile.
Heffernan kicked on over a furlong out on the 6-4 favourite, getting first run on Modeeroch to win by three-quarters of a length. Tamazug was third.
Queen Cleopatra was cut to 33-1 from 50-1 for the Vodafone Oaks.
