Labour’s new parliamentary candidate for Sligo-North Leitrim was selected at the weekend.
Broadcaster and journalist Susan O’Keeffe (49), was elected by a secret ballot among 13 members of Labour’s national executive.
Sligo Mayor Veronica Cawley had also run. Ms O’Keeffe, who risked jail for refusing to reveal journalistic sources in Ireland’s beef industry scandal, ran for Labour in Ireland North West last year in the European Parliament elections.
