Martin O'Neill arrived at Parkhead this morning as his players reported back for the first day of pre-season training but the Celtic manager was remaining tight-lipped over whether he will move to Leeds United.

O'Neill is believed to be the favourite to replace sacked Elland Road boss David O'Leary but the Glasgow club was today united in their desire to see the Irishman remain at Celtic.

Steve Guppy, who was brought to Parkhead from O'Neill's previous club, Leicester City, said there would be an "uproar" if O'Neill took over the managerial reigns at Leeds United.

He said: "People say there's no one person bigger than the club and in the long run we would probably be alright but it would definitely be a big blow if he left.

"The people here are not not stupid - I'm sure they realise how important it is for him to stay.

"If he were to leave I suppose there would be an uproar and I am sure they will be doing everything they can to keep him."

Bobby Petta has seen his own career at Celtic transformed since the arrival of O'Neill and he believes it would be a personal blow for him if the Irishman left.

He said: "The main thing is that he stays. He has been great for me and I just hope that he doesn't leave. It would be a big blow for me personally if he left."
