GAA:Having been named the man-of-the-match in the All-Ireland final, it came as little surprise that Kerry's Tom O'Sullivan was named as the GAA Player of the Month for September.

Cork’s Graham Canty, eclipsed in the decider by Tadhg Kennelly, was nevertheless rewarded for his role in getting the Rebels to Croke Park with August’s award.

PJ Ryan’s outstanding performance in the hurling final, where four crucial saves kept Tipperary at bay, was him with the hurling equivalent for September. And his Kilkenny teammate, Henry Shefflin, landed the August gong for his 1-14 tally against Waterford.

“When you look back on the season, there are many fantastic memories and it is fair to say that the men we are honouring today were at the heart of some of the best of them,” GAA president Christy Cooney said today.

“It is no coincidence that we are honouring two Kilkenny hurlers here and it is a further endorsement of what is arguably one of the greatest teams we have ever seen.

“Much the same is being said of Kerry and Tom O’Sullivan’s award is due recognition for one of the quiet heroes of that great side. Graham Canty, likewise, has been one of the stars of the season and no doubt this Cork side will be back challenging for the top honour in 2010.”
