Sonia O'Sullivan stormed to victory in the women's 3,000 metres at the North Down International Games in Bangor tonight, despite almost not making an appearance at all.
The Olympic 5000m silver medallist endured a five-hour delay in Manchester airport while travelling from Shannon. O'Sullivan then had to get a police escort from Belfast to Bangor in time to compete.
O'Sullivan won in a time of 9:00.89 but with a lack of world class competition the Cobh runner almost used the race as a warm-up for the World Championships in Paris later this month.
England's Catherine Berry in 9:14.80, while Hind Musa of the Sudan came in third (9:44.59).
