Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll has been ruled out of the summer tour to Australia, Tonga and Samoa.
The Leinster centre has not recovered from a hamstring injury suffered during the Heineken Cup semi-final defeat to Perpignan last month and O'Driscoll is one of five players ruled out of the three-Test tour.
Injuries have also accounted for Leinster centre/wing Shane Horgan (thigh), Munster prop John Hayes (groin), Munster utility back Jeremy Staunton (groin) and Ulster scrum-half Neil Doak (shoulder).
The Irish selectors, led by coach Eddie O'Sullivan, will name a team captain prior to each Test, with Ireland playing Australia in Perth on Saturday June 7th, Tonga on Saturday June 14th and against Samoa on Friday June 20th.
Regular captain Keith Wood will travel with the tour party but for training purposes only as he continues his struggle to be fit for the 2003 World Cup starting in October.
Munster flanker David Wallace will play a full part on tour having missed the whole season after shoulder surgery last summer. He is included in one of the sides for a pre-summer tour training match organised for next Friday evening at Thomond Park, Limerick.
Reggie Corrigan will captain a Whites side coached by Leinster's Matt Williams against a Colours team to be led by Anthony Foley and coached by Munster's Alan Gaffney.
